Everything runs on your Mac.
Transcription, voices, music and rendering all run on your own machine, on the parts of the Mac built for them.
- Neural EngineTranscription and finding speech, through Core ML.
- GPUVoices and music through MLX, and every frame you play or export through WebGPU.
- Media engineHardware decode and encode through VideoToolbox. Your footage is never uploaded.
What reaches the network.
Editing, transcription, voices, music and export need no connection. These are the parts that do.
| What | When | What’s sent |
|---|---|---|
| The built-in browser | When you use Capture | It loads the sites you open, like any browser, in a sandboxed session of its own. |
| Ask Claude, shorts | When you ask Claude | Your own Claude Code talks to Anthropic under your account, with what Claude reads through Diffcut’s tools: transcript words, say, or a frame. Nothing goes to Diffcut. |
| Model downloads | Once, when they ship | Planned: the models will download from Diffcut’s own server, checked against a signed list, never from a third-party hub. Not live yet. |
Your Claude, your account.
Diffcut doesn’t ship or proxy an AI model, and stores no API key. Claude features use the Claude Code you already have, and only see Diffcut’s tools.
And this website.
diffcut.dev runs no analytics. On wide screens it loads the Buy Me a Coffee button from that service. If you join the early-access list, we keep your email to write once, when the first build is ready.
Questions
Is my footage uploaded anywhere?
No. Diffcut decodes, edits, transcribes and exports on your Mac. There is no Diffcut server that receives your media.
Does Diffcut collect analytics?
No. The app has no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting built in, and you don’t need an account to use it.
What does the voice watermark contain?
A random id made once for your installation and the take’s number, 32 bits in all. It says which installation made a take, not who you are.
Can I check all this?
Yes. Diffcut is open source under the MIT licence, so every line that runs on your Mac is on GitHub.
