Ask Claude. Review every change.

Press ⌘J and ask your own Claude for an edit. It proposes changes with a reason for each; you play them, then keep them or skip them.

You see every change first.

Ask for “tighten the pauses, add word-pop captions and a lo-fi bed under it”. Claude reads the timeline, transcript and frames, then sends back changes to review.

  • A reason for eachEvery change has a label, why it was made, and what it does, like “Removes 0.8 s · 1 cut”.
  • Seen before appliedRemoved ranges are struck through on the timeline, new items are dashed ghosts.
  • Play it firstWith change plays the edit with that change, without applying it.

Your own Claude Code.

Diffcut runs the Claude Code you already use, signed in your way, with Diffcut’s tools and nothing else. No key is stored, and usage is on your own plan.

claude mcp add diffcut -- node /path/to/diffcut/packages/cli/dist/index.js mcp

The MCP server reaches Diffcut over a socket only your user can open, with a token that changes every launch. It never listens on a network port, and only sees projects open in Diffcut.

The tools Claude gets.

The same MCP server works from Claude Code or Claude Desktop on their own, while Diffcut is running.

A terminal drawer in the editor where your own Claude Code runs with Diffcut’s tools and always knows what’s on screen. In progress, not in the app yet.

Questions

Do I need an API key?

No. Diffcut runs the Claude Code you already have, signed in with your own account. It doesn’t store or pass an API key, and it doesn’t ship or proxy a model of its own.

Can Claude change my edit without asking?

No. Claude can only propose. Nothing touches the timeline until you accept a change, and each accepted change is one undo step.

What can Claude see and do?

Only Diffcut’s tools: the timeline, media, transcript and frames of projects open in Diffcut. When you ask from the editor, Claude Code gets no shell or file tools.

Does my footage go to Anthropic?

Your request goes to Claude through your own Claude Code, and so does whatever Claude reads through Diffcut’s tools to answer it, such as transcript words or a frame. Your media files aren’t uploaded by Diffcut, and nothing goes to Diffcut.

Can I use Diffcut from Claude Code or Claude Desktop directly?

Yes. In Settings › Claude, Add to Claude Code runs claude mcp add for you, or copy the entry for Claude Desktop’s config. Diffcut must be running.

Make the cut.

Diffcut is free, open source and early: the first Mac build isn’t out yet. Leave your email and we’ll write once, when it’s ready.
