# Diffcut > Diffcut is a free, open-source (MIT) video editor for macOS on Apple silicon. Everything runs on the Mac: editing, on-device transcription, voiceover, music and sound effects. It is in early development; the first Mac build is not out yet. ## Features - [Editing](https://diffcut.dev/features/editing): a frame-exact timeline with WebGPU playback; ripple, roll, slip and slide trims; an inspector for transform, crop, opacity, blend modes, fades, speed and effects; keyframes with easing and pan-and-zoom; eight transitions; stills; undo for every edit. ProRes plays through proxies; export to H.264 (MP4) or HEVC (MOV), AAC or 24-bit PCM, verified after writing. - [Captions](https://diffcut.dev/features/captions): on-device transcription (Parakeet TDT 0.6B v3 on the Neural Engine) with word timings in 25 European languages including English; five caption styles including word pop; SRT, VTT and ASS export or burned in. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi are planned. - [Voiceover](https://diffcut.dev/features/voiceover): 28 English voices (American and British) running on the Mac, directions in [brackets], real [pause]s, and a verified AudioSeal watermark on every take. - [AI music](https://diffcut.dev/features/ai-music): music and effects from a prompt with ACE-Step 1.5 on the Mac, 1 to 240 seconds, a 30-second bed in about 6 seconds on an M5; plus 12 synthesised effects. - [Capture](https://diffcut.dev/features/capture): a built-in browser with five device sizes, four kinds of screenshot, and tab recording at 60 fps, straight into the project. - [Ask Claude](https://diffcut.dev/features/ask-claude): press Cmd+J and your own Claude Code proposes edits that you review change by change; Diffcut's MCP server also works from Claude Code or Claude Desktop. A Claude terminal inside the editor is coming next. - [Shorts](https://diffcut.dev/features/shorts): the strongest moments of a long video, cut to 9:16 and framed on the speaker, with word-pop captions and a hook card. - [Demo videos](https://diffcut.dev/features/demo-videos): a first cut from a browser recording, with zooms on clicks, a smooth cursor, captions, voiceover and music. ## More - [All features](https://diffcut.dev/features) - [Privacy on device](https://diffcut.dev/privacy-on-device): what runs where, and the few things that reach the network. - [Changelog](https://diffcut.dev/changelog): every merged change, by date. - [Diffcut vs CapCut](https://diffcut.dev/compare/capcut) - [Diffcut vs Descript](https://diffcut.dev/compare/descript) ## Coming next - A Claude terminal inside the editor. - Connections to image, video and voice tools, and round-trip to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. ## Links - Website: https://diffcut.dev - Source: https://github.com/sushanshetty1/diffcut
